Seven Three Newsletter
Amateur Radio Newsletter For September 2017
Welcome to the first ever Seven Three Newsletter! The intentions of this newsletter is to provide amateur radio news and information to hams in Minnesota and Wisconsin with the possibility of branching out from there. My name is Mike Shelby (K9MLS) and I have been in the hobby for a few years now. I used to receive the Feedline Newsletter from Kenny Broshofske (KJ9W) and really enjoyed it but Kenny no longer has the time to keep it going. I reached out to Kenny and let him know I was interested in picking it up and with his blessings here we are today.
I did some thinking about what I would do with it and talked to a few people about newsletters. Paul Brooten (KB9TYC) and I decided to start getting something going. Paul has been a ham for a long time and has been a huge help to the community here in Barron County. To make a long story here we are today producing our first ever newsletter. I would like to note that I am not a writer and I am going to lean on Paul and others to proof these newsletters before they go out.
This newsletter will still come out via and email with the addition of utilizing the Barron County Amateur Radio Association website. If enough people request it we will provide a PDF as well.
Also, we are going to have an open platform meaning if you want to submit relevant information we’d be glad to publish it to the newsletter. The idea being the community drives the direction of the newsletter. An example would be say someones experiences with an event, radio reviews, your club information, and anything else you can think of that is related to the hobby that would be newsletter worthy. I have a few people in mind that I would like to write a regular column so we will see if they are up for it. If you are interested writing articles or helping in any way with this newsletter it would be great to have the help. The idea being is that not just one person do the bulk of the work. So, if your interested send us an email at seventhree @ bcham.org.
There is a lot of information that we can be sharing and talking about and this platform should be a decent place for that. I hope to also incorporate our Facebook group page as well for further discussions on these newsletters.
News From Our Region & Elsewhere
Florida Repeater Council
The Florida repeater council update over on http://forums.qrz.com is a very interesting read, it’s not local but it’s something worth keeping and eye on down there. It seems that these types of situations aren’t isolated to just Florida so it’s good to learn about it. If you use repeaters you should know what is going on behind the scenes with some of these organizations. I hope to have some updates from the Minnesota Repeater Council and the Wisconsin Association of Repeaters in the future.

BOONDOCKING For HAMS
What is boondocking? Boondocking is free camping, generally out in the boondocks. Some of us are planning to camp at my vacant lot in south western Chippewa county Wisconsin on the second weekend of September. (8-9-10 and the lot should be ready by noon Friday) All I have to offer is a place to park with camp fire areas, a picnic area with fire pit and fire wood that needs to go. The site has trees and three small towers to tie antennas to. The address is 3583 County highway N, Colfax, WI 54730. 44.946079, -91.598928 The 146.610 Menomonie repeater (tone 110.9) is about 2 miles from the site. I’ll get the AC0GV APRS system up for the weekend. More information can be found here: https://www.qrz.com/db/?callsign=AC0GV
